My Postie Life

If you have been following along you probably know at least two things about me.
  1. I haven't written anything in yonks.
  2. I have been 'working freelance' (aka unemployed) for the past, and I can't believe this part, two years.

Giving myself a bad wrap

Yo peeps! I've apparently been pissing you lot off no-end by trying to flip my 'blog' into a driving force for my 'art'.

So that deserves a form of explanation on my part this week.

Review: First Impressions S&S Run With the Bulls Shoes

G'day. I recently stumbled across a website I didn't know about called 'Riders Line'. I stumbled across these Speed & Strength shoes and immediately thought, I’ll have those, thanks.

Hey. Now you know this new 'Drawing WIP' process I kicked off recently? Yeah well I never said it would be in order. Or even logical.

Take this week's drawing for instance. I actually started it before last week's drawing but so far that's as far as it has gone :)

Harley Davidson Road Glide: Drawing WIP

Rowdy howdy as we used to say in South Australia :)

You might notice a theme happening of late, and there is reason for that. You see I am trying to finish off a nice set of Harleys to add to my collection. When you do a series it is easier to make other stuff out of them, like patterns and posters etc.

Harley Davidson 1936 Knucklehead WIP

This week's Drawing WIP has a bit more progress to speak of than previous. Some might even say it is close to finished.

This week I've got a vintage Harley to show off. It's a 1936 Knucklehead that really caught my eye and I thought, hmm yeah I wanna draw that. Here is the original outline.

Wet Weather Motorcycling and How To Get Over It

I've got a little secret to admit. I used to hate riding in the wet.

I used to pretend I liked it so everyone would think I was tough, but secretly I was actually mostly shit scared of riding in the rain.

That is not to say that I did not do it, but I didn't really like it.

Yes, that was me on The Chase

Ok, so I went on a TV show called The Chase. It's an Australian version of a popular TV Game Show and it's hosted by TV Personality Andrew O'Keefe over here, and yes that was me on it tonight :)

What a gigantic dork.

Men & Women Who Ride & Write Motorcycle Blogs: A Roundup

G’day fellow motorcycle fiends. Blogging is a strange art, a silly electronic diary of our own internal diatribe - motorcycle blogs - we don’t do it for the money (what a joke!), I think we do it for for a variety of reasons, but most of all I think we do it because of our love of motorcycles.

I like sharing my stories and hearing from others about similar experiences, I like to practise my writing skills and I’ve been doing this a while now starting with Ducati Blog back in 2011, as well as a few blogs with varied topics over the years.

Helmet rapping and not running people over on your motorcycle

Wassup? I’ve been listening to the new Drake album, Views, and I’ve taken to singing along, sorry, rapping, in my helmet while riding.

It helps dull the annoying sound of the tinnitus the audio specialist told me I had developed the other day. Just add it to the list of things my body hates me for I thought. I’ll punish it with more Drake.

How an Internet Troll turned into a Podcast interview

Can I tell you another secret? I hate the sound of my own voice.

So when Larry from the podcast Creative Riding, trolled me online then got me to agree to an interview I may never know.

Night Stalking Merge Lanes and the Joy of Tipping In

It’s been an excellent eight months living with the GS, I’ve done a fair amount of different kinds of riding on it, and it has never once let me down.

Quite the opposite in fact. It has shone. In every situation and oh the joys of tipping in!

Round up: New Motorcycles and Gadgets to watch 2016

G’day! Last year I had the pleasure, albeit a brief one, of meeting up with The Experimental Ghost and his Mrs, the Pillion in a Million IRL while I was up his way hawking my moto-art, and we just clicked, started yackin' like a couple of old school buddies who hadn’t seen each other in a million years.

Good peoples.

What does the colour of your motorcycle say about you?

I spend quite a bit of time looking at colour charts and colour matching using Copic Marker’s colour rendering system to image of motorcycles that I draw, and then turn into gift ideas for motorcycle fans, so it’s no surprise that I think about colour and motorcycles a lot.

But it took a weird turn the other day, I was listening to talk back radio and they had a neuroscientist talking about how colour affects so much of our decisions, and that a lot of them are innate decisions.

Choosing an Exhaust for a BMW R1200GS

At first I was pretty happy with the stock pipe on my BMW R1200 GS, but after about 7,000kms I knew it had to go; it just didn’t have the character, or note, that I liked.

I really wanted that angry twin note, I basically wanted it to sound like my old Multistrada. Thumpy, angry and loud!

Learning about Harleys and getting flamed by Trolls

Yasuo! My Dad was a greek Cypriot, and Mum was English, he loved Indians, and she loved bikes and boys. What a match!

They were together until the end, some 53 odd years of marriage and migration from the UK to Australia as '10 Pound Poms', raising 3 boys and 2 girls.

Carpe diem: a day adventuring on the Triple Black GS

I keep running across this mindful thing of late, it’s really stuck with me through these past few months when stuff has been really dark, and conversely when stuff is really light and fluffy too. Like enjoying a good belly laugh.

The kind that comes from nowhere, the one that takes-you-by-complete-surprise kind of laugh. Or the opportunity, and more importantly the feeling, to make the most of a great day and go riding.

A short story for new motorcycle riders

Well, hello there. After being surrounded by them, living next door to them, and this near miss experience below, I decided to write this short story for new motorcycle riders.

I jokingly refer to them as the 'Ninja Squad', as they all seem to ride Kawasaki Ninja 300s. Go figure.

First Impressions helmet review - Arai Signet-Q Pro Tour

I dunno exactly how this happened but for whatever reason I have always found myself wearing Shoei helmets, but no more!

Below are my first impressions of a new Arai Signet-Q Pro Tour Tactical helmet.

Riding motorcycles is the best medicine

I once heard that suicide is a preventable disease, I wish it were true, and that I could go back in time and use that information to save a life, because one was taken from me this year, and my whole world changed as I fell into an abyss of darkness.

It was someone who meant an a lot to me, a childhood sweetheart, and she took her own life.

Blasting into 2016

Hello 2016! Pew pew pew! Fireworks.

Resolutions.Reviews. Appraisals. Regrets. Change. Happy new year, or whatever.

Glad it’s over to be honest, let’s just get on with riding more.
